QuickTime FAQs – What you need to know

By Alchemy Support |

Apple has recently announced they will no longer support security updates for QuickTime. Below, please find a few frequently asked questions to help you understand this change and guide you through suggested next steps.

What is happening to QuickTime?smallcreator.png

QuickTime Video Player is no longer supported by Apple. It is still available for download, but the company recommends you uninstall it from your Microsoft Windows device.

How does this affect me?

If you run Microsoft Windows 7 with Alchemy Creator 2, you will need an alternative MP4 Codec Player. Windows 8 and Windows 10 are not affected.

Why do I need an MP4 Codec Player?

Alchemy Creator 2 (a PowerPoint add-on) uses an MP4 Codec to import (and edit) video files from Alchemy Courses. However, Windows 8 and Windows 10 have the MP4 Player built-in and do not need an alternative player.

What action should I take?

If you are using Windows 7, reach out to your organization’s IT specialists for a video player that supports H.264 and AAC encoding. An application such as K-Lite Codec Pack is a viable option, but please reach out to your computer specialists before installing.
